What is the most effective and cost-efficient way of monitoring my employees?
By abolishing your view of monitoring and delegating self-monitoring to your employees. In order for this to work, you must first of all establish the following prerequisites:
- Develop a culture where every employee is aware of the importance his work has towards overall success. Make it clear to all employees that they make an individual and distinctive contribution. Clarify that freeloaders indeed engage the services of the company but are not prepared to undertake a portion of the work that is to be carried out collectively. What one person shirks must be completed by another person. This does not derogate an anonymous company but rather a work colleague.
- Set clear and comprehensible objectives together with your team. The achievement of these is easier to monitor than the necessary individual work steps. The time you save can be invested in regular one-to-one discussions with each of your employees. This way you change from being an overseer to a coach, to the trainer of your team, which performs highly under your charge.
