Due to nothing but planning, I am no longer able to do my actual job. How can I best deal with this?
What is your “actual job“? Imagine a jockey who believes that he can run better than his horse. To that effect he runs himself. Since he must show the horse at the finish, he carries it around the racecourse. Despite this formidable approach, he seldom wins. Appealing his last place he always argues the weight of the horse. Gunther Hübner, a successful manager in Vienna, describes this behavior as the "Prefer to do it myself" syndrome.
Unfortunately the “prefer to do it myself“ types in management are rarely as easy to spot as the jockey. They act important and busy in contrast. They are best at everything and are indispensable. Since this existence is very difficult it is usually short. My advice: Change your approach towards delegation and recognize your real tasks as a manager.
